Paul Lindsay reports

Ali again………..

SP_30564Alison, the 2015 BSPA GP Winner, got off to a fast start not letting SJ settle with a mix of good length and attacking volleys winning the first 11/5.

The second SJ started to push up the court more using her holds to good effect but leading 5-1 Ali then played a few risk reward winners and somehow it was then 8 all. Ali kept the momentum to steal the game 11/8 and go 2-0 up.

A total reverse of the first game saw SJ race into lead and play some lovely squash, this time not letting her lead slip as she closed out the game 11/5 with the crowd enjoying some world class squash.

Neither player could establish a lead in the fourth game although SJ had a chance at 10/9 to take the match to a deciding game…..Ali had other ideas and some long rallies gave Ali 3 points in a row to take the game and match 12-10, much to the crowds delight as Alison has recently joined Roehampton Club as a member.

Two in a row for Tom as he retains the BSPA GP Finals Title……..

SP_30563Ben started brightly playing some good squash and moving really well taking the first 11/6 with the crowd thinking there could be an upset.

The second Tom started to assert himself winning the hard fought points at the right time and did not let his lead slip as he leveled the match 11/6.

The third game certainly proved entertaining for the crowd with some outrageous winners. Tom looked comfortable, always being ahead, but a lack of concentration & unforced errors at 10/7 allowed Ben back in to the game. At 10/10 Tom managed to refocus and win a closer than it should have been 12/10 game.

The 4th maybe saw the effects of the night before match, where Ben had won 3/2. Tom moved Ben around the court and perhaps there was a little fatigue in Bens legs but Ben never gave up. Tom was just too good taking the game and match 11/4 – making it a Roehampton Club Member double on the night.

Both games were played in wonderful spirit and thank you to Malcolm Whiteley for refereeing all 3 days.

The four finalists appropriately thanked those involved in the event at the Roehampton Club.
